Brazilian Godfather Rides FCS II To World Title

by Chris D | Dec 17, 2015
100% FCS Global Team Rider and the Godfather of Brazilian surfing Adriano De Souza, has achieved his lifelong dream by becoming the 2015 WSL Men’s World Champion. Riding the FCS II Carver PCC Large and his signature FCS II ADS Medium, Adriano surfed methodically to make the final and eventually win the Billabong Pro at Pipeline in Hawaii to solidify the number one position.

In what can only be described as two of the most dramatic days in competition history where multiple title contenders were eliminated, De Souza proved that hard work and consistency ultimately pays dividends. In the final Adriano defeated fellow 100% FCS teammate Gabriel Medina who was riding the FCS II Performer PCC Large

After an incredible challenging year Mick Fanning was unlucky not to clinch his fourth World Title. Mick had to make the final to seal the deal, but was eliminated at the hands of Medina who landed an amazing front-side rotation at the end of their semifinal matchup. Mick’s signature FCS II MF Large and Medium templates have proven to be highly popular amongst the tour competitors.

2015 produced one of the most exciting finishes to a World Title race ever with 6 contenders vying for the title going into the last event, 5 of those being FCS team riders. With the shocking withdrawal of Owen Wright due to injury, it would be a forgone conclusion that an FCS team rider would win the title, and add to the already impressive victory statistics for FCS II. In fact, every event on the 2015 Men’s WSL tour was won by surfers riding FCS II.

WHICH FIN WON?

Adriano switched between his signature FCS II ADS Medium template and the FCS II Carver PCC Medium during the event, both of which have a high degree of sweep offering exceptional drive and control.

It was another clean sweep for FCS II in the final event of the women’s tour held in Maui a few weeks earlier. Carissa Moore secured her 3rd WSL World Title and produced an impressive power display riding the FCS II MF Large to also clinch the event win over FCS team member Sally Fitzgibbons who was riding her signature FCS II SF PC Medium.

FCS Fact: 35 WSL World Championship Tour events, and 8 WSL World Titles, have now been won by surfers riding the FCS II system and fins.
