FCS II Fatboy 8” 9” and 10” review

I love the Fatboy fin. I have tried so many other styles of single fins. And I now just ride this fin. For me it seems to work in all waves and longboards. I have ridden the Fatboy on 12 foot Nettleton gliders, CJ Nelson Classic 10’, Neo Classic 10’ and Parallax 9’9”.

I like the smaller base area near the board. This allows it to be loose. The upright nature of the fin allows you to turn hard. It is easy to pivot around the fin. And the bulb at the end really holds in turns.

        I love changing between the 8”, 9” and 10”. The 8”

seems to have about half the surface area of the 10”. I have used all sizes in all wave heights. Anything above 4 foot I use the 9 or 10”. On smaller days the 8” is fun. You can even break the fin out and slide the tail.

Big tip. Always apply the rubber strips to the bottom of the fin that FCS provide. I have lost two fins because I forgot to put it on. It provides dampening. And prevents the fin coming loose and falling out. Even if it is tight fit apply the rubber strips.

Please come out with some new colours for the Fatboy please FCS!!!

        Fat boy Fin

I ride a 9’2 FireWire performance mal. I have always ridden this board with a tri-fin set up: mostly at Burliegh, the alley and of course snapper. However having moved to Cronulla I was looking for a different set up as the waves are generally fatter and not as fast. The fat-boy fin has worked really well to date. You still get heaps of speed in the peaky sections, but I really like it for the turns. It’s heaps responsive. I’ve yet to try it in small surf, but I reckon it will handle the little shories better than my previous set up. I also like the ability to pop the fin out easily and being able to change its position in the fin box when in the water

FCS II Fatboy PG Longboard 9" Fin

It's a great fin. High quality product. I have fitted it into a 9'6" noserider longboard and so far it feels like a great combination. The board turns well. I have one concern. Due to the big kick in the tail of the board , a lot of the fin is out of the water when noseriding. I can see now why the manufacturer (and shaper) recommended a 10" fin. I looked for a 10" Fatboy for a while unsuccessfully so I settled for a 9". All will be revealed in the fullness of time....But if asked I'd probably say for a 9'6" board like mine, go for a 10" fin.

        Really solid fin.

I ride this on a 9’6” Torq “The Don” and it has an awesome loose feel to it.
